Query to Readers

» February 4th, 2013

I’m curious if readers have had trouble accessing my site. There have been some issues with the host of my site and I’m trying to get a sense of how it’s impacting traffic. Just leave a brief response to this post if you have been experiencing difficulties at james-mcwilliams.com. I apologize if you have.

James

  1. No problem for me. (Figured I should post because someone who’s having trouble accessing your site may well not see this!)

The nature of the problem hasn’t been a blackout, but period inaccessibility and slowness. . .
      thanks!

      • CQ says:

I couldn’t open this morning’s blog (inaccessibility and slowness), so I closed it and moved on. Just now I tried to send a message to that effect, but instead got this:

“The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.”

The way I finally got here was to go to an earlier email and click on the title of a blog from a couple days ago. Got right in, and arrived here by clicking on the next day links at the top of each blog.

        Hope that makes sense.

Hi dear James……am able to access your great site easily! Thanks for caring about the animals.

  3. Ellen K says:

None, even with a 10-yr-old Mac running 10.4.1 and Firefox 3.6 (don’t laugh, it’s paid for…) which does have browser problems with other sites

  4. Linda N says:

I get them on my email. Love them thank you.

  5. Yetik Serbest says:

I have not encountered any problems.

  6. vicki says:

No problems accessing the site but tried to leave a comment on Sunday and received an error message (sorry I didn’t keep it). It was on the burger scandal so you may have been getting a lot of hits at the time because I had just sent the link to our members. When I tried to go back to the article, the site wouldn’t open. I’ll try again today!

I am on your email list. I check my mail very often on my phone. I do go to your site from my phone when I want to followup on comments from a post. Just this morning I could not get your site to open up. It was very slow. I gave up. I am now on my laptop and have not had a problem. I have noticed slowness when accessing from my phone previously.

  8. Charlie Talbert says:

Glad to say I’ve had no problems receiving emails of your posts. I checked at your site back to December 31 to see if I received emails of all of your posts that appear there since then. I have. I have Safari 5.1.7.

    Hi James…

Just now when I click on comment it worked. When I clicked on Query to Readers, I got this message:
    Error establishing a database connection

    Seems fine here

  11. Karen Orr says:

I receive Eating Plants via e-mail but, if I’m home, I often check the site several times a day because I enjoy following the comments.

Over the last several days I’ve experienced slowness and sometimes inaccessibility.

  12. Lori says:

Yes, there have been several times when accessing your blog was super slow. And a few times also when I could not get to it. But most of the time it works fine.

  13. Jack Mcmillan says:

I don’t seem to have any problems. But watch, now I will !

  14. Nadine says:

I can’t access your earlier post “The Cultural Contradictions of Convenience”. Otherwise, all is well.

  15. Ingrid says:

It’s been problem-free for me, for the most part. I’ve had occasional long load times, and just one or two instances when the browser stalled on the URL and wouldn’t load the page, but would do so a few minutes later.
